Clients' Challenge

• VRT MAX offers viewers the ability to rewatch their favorite TV shows and even watch specific sections of a show.
• The classification of episodes into separate segments was done entirely manually by VRT’s editors, making it a boring, repetitive, and very time-consuming task.

Our Solution

• VRT needed an application to make chaptering easier and more efficient.
• We used our expertise in artificial intelligence to develop an automatic chaptering tool.
• Collaborated closely with VRT’s internal team to ensure knowledge transfer, allowing them to continue working with and developing the tool independently.
• Enriched videos with more metadata, providing added value beyond chaptering by making more information about their videos available.
• Experimented iteratively with different machine learning techniques to develop algorithms that automatically divide episodes into chapters.

Impact Created

• The developed algorithms can now automatically segment all episodes of 'De Afspraak' into chapters, significantly reducing the workload of VRT’s staff.
• VRT’s internal team is empowered to further develop the tool and apply it more broadly.
