Client's Challenge
Port of Antwerp-Bruges is the second largest port in Europe, with more than 300 liner services and 800 destinations. Managing its end-to-end nautical logistics chain, from ship arrivals and cargo handling to port transit and departures, is a highly complex process involving manual planning, decision-making, and collaboration with numerous stakeholders. Any changes to ship scheduling have significant operational impacts on the entire logistics chain, making precise planning crucial.
Our Solution
How were we of service? Well, by using AI and process mining, we created a digital process twin of the entire nautical logistics chain. This digital replica offers a comprehensive view of all port operations and their sensitivity to changes in other processes. To ensure a 360° perspective, our solution integrated various data sources, including internal data from POAB's business applications, as well as external data like weather forecasts.
Created Impact
By leveraging this digital twin, the Port of Antwerp-Bruges simplified its complex processes. The consolidation of all nautical logistics operations in one digital twin yielded valuable insights into their interdependencies. Real-time monitoring of process executions on the digital twin enabled proactive issue resolution and problem prevention. Additionally, we identified, quantified, and resolved pain points and inefficiencies, providing a clear roadmap for future process improvement.
